US Online Influencer Fined Following Mass E-Bike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge

NSW authorities have levied a penalty against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the famous Sydney landmark during peak-hour traffic on a weekday.

The Incident: An Illegal Gathering

A group of approximately 40 people riding e-bikes and motorcycles travelled along the bridge’s main deck, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly then turned around and rode through the downtown area and Haymarket.

"This had a risk of serious injury or fatalities," remarked NSW police assistant commissioner David Driver on the following day.

Police said they did not immediately pursue the riders out of safety concerns but instead located the group at a scenic Sydney lookout near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

On Saturday, authorities stated they had served the US social media influencer known as Sur Ronster, 26, with two traffic infringement notices for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), with a fine of over five hundred dollars and three demerit points each, connected to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that the investigation is ongoing.

The personality reportedly has more than 3.4m subscribers on YouTube and over 1.2 million on the social media app.

Influencer's Comments

The online figure spoke with a local publication this week following the event gained traction on digital platforms, saying he was sorry for giving "the biking community" a negative image.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was among the safest ride-outs I have witnessed," he told the publication. "I’m coming here as a guest, and I intend to come here respecting the laws and norms of the city. When I decided to do a public meeting it did not involve a ride-out, it was just to greet people near the bridge."

"I did not know the area well, I am to blame we ended up on the bridge and I had two choices: either the group rides the full length of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we turn around, essentially, before entering the bridge. And I made the decision at the time to turn around."

National Debate on E-Bike Regulation

The increase of electric bicycles on roads nationwide has prompted growing calls for regulation. The federal health minister, the minister, recently said that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Kids have done stupid things on bikes ever since the early bicycle [but] the injuries that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are truly severe," the minister said. "We must make sure we stop these things entering the country [and] officers are given the authority to crack down, to take them away, to destroy them, to destroy them."

The state reported over two hundred injuries related to ebikes in the previous year. However, in the initial half of 2025, that figure jumped to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
