The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would be thrilled by the possibility that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage a different club on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding what circumstances would need to occur to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal with the players talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits at the club. I still have the captain's chuckle in my ear as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. The forward lost his life in a car crash alongside his brother recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. It was an incredible shock for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this emotionally is difficult. Impossible.”
