The Derry Prequel Series Premieres Episode Two Ahead of Schedule on HBO Max
Audiences are thrilled for the Stephen King adaptation Welcome to Derry, that's been earning acclaim and incorporating elements from additional King stories. Now, the network declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for the spookiest night.
Early Release Details
Kicking off on Halloween night at 3 a.m. EST, the next part of the Derry prequel will launch on the streaming service, ahead of its linear broadcast. Subsequent episodes of the eight-episode season will continue to air on Sundays on the network and streaming service, leading up to the season finale on December 14th.
Series Overview
Set in the world of King's It, Welcome to Derry borrows elements from the classic book while enlarging the setting brought to life by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. It Chapter One focused on young characters facing terrifying threats, so it’s fitting that this show continues that tradition. Nevertheless, the first installment of the streaming show proves it set out to escalate the fear, offering even more intense scares than the movies and creating a dark atmosphere for the upcoming episodes.
Setting and Themes
Located in the early '60s, the series introduces a new generation of adults and children residing in a seemingly idyllic town hiding a evil heart. The town follows a brutal, periodic loop—defined by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a monstrous presence returns every 27 years. While It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it strays too near to the films at first, what sets apart the HBO Max series is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. Children stay especially susceptible to It's terror, but older characters don't escape confronting their individual fears arising from the town's ingrained prejudice and lurking supernatural forces.
Episode 2 premieres on the 31st of October at midnight PT.
