Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months following instigating derogatory chants aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road concluded amicably this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the former England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club away from the bottom places.

Previous History Involving Bamford & the Manager

The pair had a past prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All seems to have been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

The forward made 18 games for Leeds last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
