Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
