Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:
- Each team has only eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
