A Ton of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a wealth of pastimes much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to refrain from arguing with relatives. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling news items came out over the holidays, and should you missed a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Truly the most shocking announcement, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. However, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
